Interview - alliance UNIO
We ask The Alliance Leader of UNIO a few question at the end of the 12th tournament.
Chronicler: I would like to ask you, Klyon, to sum up the most important events of this tournament in a few sentences, and tell me how they affected the life of the alliance UNIO!
Klyon: A lot has happened during this tournament. Numerous alliances disbanded, numerous others were founded. The most prevalent were the foundation of the Storm-chasers and the fusion of AOS and AMO. All in all it was the changing of possible targets that was most important to us. Also, many joined UNIO after ALLIN disbanded. These are the events that had the most effect on us.
Chronicler: Looking back, what do you think of the tournament as a whole?
Klyon: It was diverse. At the start I felt it was simply a continuation of the previous tournament. The two sides remained; the only change was that SGX was replaced by LEGO. Then the diplomatic views and military powers began changing. This caused the game experience to change too. Luckily we weren’t forced to participate in the stagnant battles so far. Altogether it was an enjoyable learning experience. I had the pleasure of meeting many new people and getting to know more sides of Gal6.
Chronicler: Were there any moments that affected your play-style and alliance life?
Klyon: There definitely were! One of these is diplomatic in nature, as there were many new alliances being founded meant that our possible targets decreased drastically. A good example is the founding and actions of IF. The tournament’s biggest turning point was the disbanding (or transformation, if they prefer to call it that) of ALLIN, which led to their side of the bipolar-conflict collapsing. That kind of stomped our opportunities.
Chronicler: Do you have any other opinions you’d like to share with us?
Klyon: I think it would be worth thinking about the meaning of it all. The tournament began with a continuation of what happened before. This was brought to an end by circumstances I’m largely unfamiliar with. Apparently SOA joined LEGO’s side for some reason I don’t know. The fact that LEGO’s side grew stronger pretty much decided the outcome. Strange, don’t you think? The decisions of 5-10 people decided the options of 5-10 alliances for an entire tournament. These decisions affected over a 1000 players... It’s worth thinking about how that’s possible, right? I think so: two sides build up against each other, and everyone has to choose which one to follow. History repeats itself every tournament, 2+2 will remain 4 until something is changed.
And that’s my other point: things have started changing on the diplomatic front, and diplomacy is the greatest weapon of all! It can force hundreds of planets to refrain from attacking or work tightly together, even though they could be battling each other... It can give a small alliance the protection it needs. Gal6 is a community which has just begun changing at the very core. As the ideas of the individuals change, the flow of the tournament also changes. The question is, when will there be enough changes made to make us say that the 13th tournament isn’t a mere rerun of the previous 3 tournaments? I suppose only time will tell. My third and final thought is that victory can be achieved in many ways, which has never been more apparent than now. SGX was horribly mauled in the previous tournament. The same happened to ALLIN in this tournament. Yet every alliance that took part in these battles can be considered victorious: LEGO got 1st place on the ranking; ALLIN got to experience exciting battles the likes of which few ever could; the same goes for UNIO, some of the battles we participated in were magnificent. Perhaps the greatest victory was creating our own community with people who think alike, and fighting alongside them. I’d call the creation of our community a great victory.
Chronicler: To finish up, please summarise all your plans for the next tournament!
Klyon: Sum up all my plans for an entire tournament? And make it short? I can’t do that. I have way too many... The ones worth bringing forth: to strengthen and implement what I started in the 12th tournament: to use any means necessary to ensure the best and most fun battles for my community possible, and also make sure that the community spends each day in a safe environment. I can’t really ask for more for us... Well, maybe one thing: I’d like good opponents to have good and tough battles with.
Chronicler: What is your opinion on the implemented updates to the game from an alliance point of view?
Klyon: An important change is the new transfer system, which uprooted everything that came before it. It took some opportunities away, but gave alternatives. From a strategic standpoint, it destroyed some great opportunities, like the ability to create a good defending planet quickly and for a low price. But now we have other great options available to us. It rules out numerous resource-manipulations, yet doesn’t hinder the creation of defender planets. On the contrary... I think most readers understand what I mean; the rest should look it up. So it’s a useful change. Other changes I know of: Correct me if I’m wrong, but the strategic map was changed in this tournament, right? In its current state it’s a very useful and easy to use tool. I believe the user interface and the forums were also given a few tweaks. I found those to be useful too. What brought me the most joy was that a lot of errors were fixed compared to the state of the game half a year ago.
Chronicler: Would you like to add anything before we end?
Klyon: Yes I would. I’d like to ad that during the previous tournament, I separated myself from a lot of my war-buddies. For me, the beginning of the next tournament will be a period of beginning anew. I hope to restart my relations with the fine warriors I fought alongside in the 10th and 11th tournaments. I hope I can welcome them into our alliance soon. I’m sure they’ll know how to get in touch with me. It would be great to see the square-squad back together, doing what we did in the good old days.
